I was asked to write a blog.....a what? This girl took typing class on an actual type writer in school (and failed miserably). My only computer class consisted of drawing flow charts! So, if you are reading this then,
A. I figured this computer thing out.
B.You must really be bored. and /or
C. I am way more interesting than I thought! ;)
I figured out the how, now comes the what? What the heck do I have to write about?! I have been struggling with a back injury for months and this past week, the pain turned from muscle pain to nerve pain travels down my left leg. This has not only forced me to finally call the doctor, it has also caused controversy in my house.
I participate in and coach Crossfit at Crossfit Cedar Park. Did CF cause my injury? NO! My own stubbornness and stupidity did. Can CF cause injuries? Yes, but so can other activities. I had shoulder surgery after a normal "3 sets of 12" weight lifting work out. Football players get injured, tennis players get injured, basketball players get injured. I work at Tillman Physical Therapy and have seen injuries caused by chasing wasps and stepping off a curb wrong. Do we sit at home on our *sses to avoid injury?! Heck no!
We move heavy sh*t fast in CF, that's true. However, a good coach will not allow a person to use a weight they are not ready for until technique is established. That being said, you are ultimately the CEO of your body. Communicate with your coaches, set up skill sessions and practice, practice, practice technique!! I am well aware of how easy it is to get caught up in the competition of things. You will have good days and bad, know your body and remain in control at all times. BE YOUR OWN CEO!
